Dr. Jeff Hartwell D.C.
As a child, my mother was helped immensely with migraine headaches, neck and back pain by her chiropractor. I was so impressed with this that, as a 9th grader, I decided to pursue a chiropractic career. I am a 1988 graduate of Western States Chiropractic College. I obtained a Licensed Massage Therapist status while attending Chiropractic College, and was able to supplement my hands on experience by working with athletes and other patients for years prior to graduating as a chiropractor.
From 1988 through 1992, I worked as an associate doctor at Robinson Chiropractic Clinic in Molalla, OR, where in addition to standard treatment, I was able to run a rehab center for injury recovery. In 1992, I opened Hartwell Chiropractic Clinic here in Canby. With my wife by my side, we have enjoyed being members of this community for many years now. We have raised our family here, been involved with our church, schools and have stayed busy helping to care for the people in our community.
I enjoy treating all kinds of conditions involving the muscles, bones, joints, and nerves and I am also passionate about health and nutrition. If we give our bodies what they need, we can most often times, avoid medication. Patients often comment on the thoroughness of my care. A careful look at the musculoskeletal system from the feet to the head is a must when treating many cases. I give credit to the Lord Jesus Christ for the gifts He has given me in being compassionate and skilled in using my hands and mind to assist in patient's recovery. I also enjoy helping people to try to find answers when they have hit a dead end. At times people have referred to me as a Chiropractic Detective.

I grew up in Happy Valley, Oregon; a fifth generation Oregon native.
I have always had an interest in health and the human body and, from my childhood, had a love for science. After a summer of Chiropractic care following a work injury, I saw the need for Chiropractic and developed a new found passion for this field of healthcare. Upon my return from 6 months of traveling with YWAM (Youth With A Mission) in Hawaii and New Zealand, I began my journey through the Doctor of Chiropractic program at the University of Western States (UWS).
It was while attending UWS that my wife became pregnant with our first son and my passion began to extend toward the perinatal and pediatrics side of chiropractic. I began shadowing perinatal docs and continue to this day to research and add to my arsenal of knowledge and skills in helping women navigate the changes that occur with the miracle of life. I am a member of the ICPA (International Chiropractic Pediatric Association) and certified in the Webster Technique.
Promoting health in our family is a big goal to my wife and I as I have seen the benefit that chiropractic care has had for each member of our family. I look forward to meeting and working with each of my patients in helping them on their journey to achieving optimal health and a better quality of life.

I enjoyed playing sports and being physically active as a kid. I first became interested in health and nutrition in high school, but I also enjoyed math and science and ended up pursuing my undergraduate education in mechanical engineering at Oregon State University. While I was in engineering school, I had the opportunity to take the introductory course for athletic training, and I loved it. I didn’t know how to put the two subjects together and decided to finish my engineering degree and go to work. Several years later I went to a Chiropractor for the first time for shoulder pain that would not resolve on its own. God used that experience to open my eyes to the opportunity to use my problem-solving skills and curiosity about how things work combined with my interest in health, nutrition, and physical activity to help people as a Chiropractor. After 12 years working as a mechanical engineer, I decided to go back to school and moved back to Oregon to attend University of Western States in Portland. I graduated in 2021 and am on a path of learning more about how all aspects of our health work together from mental and emotional health and stress to sleep and nutrition. I have a heart to listen to people’s stories, come along side to teach, equip, and help people to improve their health, and to see people be healed from the inside out. I believe each patient has unique needs and responds to treatment differently, so it is important to work cooperatively with each individual and use the tools I have available that best fit his or her needs. My last 6 months of clinical work for school focused largely on neck and low back pain with symptoms such as pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness that radiate down the arms or legs. I tend to have success with these types of conditions using a variety of hands-on treatments, exercises, and modifications to posture and movement.
